On March 26, 1940, Archbishop James McGuigan announced the formation of a new parish in Etobicoke­–Our Lady of Sorrows. Eight months later, on November 16, the first Mass was celebrated in the church followed by the Solemn Opening Mass on December 22. Later this year the parish will mark 85 years of faithful devotion and service as a community with the celebration of the Feast Day of Our Lady of Sorrows at the 12:30 Mass on Sunday, September 14, a day early. A special mass will be celebrated by Bishop Camilleri, and a party will follow. On November 16, 85 years since the first Mass was celebrated, Candlelight Vespers will be held under the direction of  Music Director, Gordon Mansell.
